Churros with Chocolate Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup sugar for dusting
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Chocolate Sauce

  • 200g dark chocolate, chopped
  • 200ml double cream

Preparations

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat water, sugar, salt, and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil until it comes to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in the flour until the mixture forms a ball.
  2. Heat oil for frying in a deep skillet or deep-fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  3. Pipe strips of dough into the hot oil using a pastry bag fitted with a large star tip. Fry until golden brown, then remove and drain on paper towels.
  4. Mix 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon together and roll the fried churros in this mixture until coated.
  5. For the chocolate sauce, heat the double cream in a small saucepan until simmering, then pour over the chopped chocolate. Let sit for a minute, then stir until smooth.
  6. Serve churros warm with chocolate sauce for dipping.

Tips

  • For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the chocolate sauce for a spicy kick.
